Spend an hour each week stitching in this fun hand embroidery sampler class, held online via Zoom. This is an 10 week class, starting January 30, 2025. Class dates: Thursdays January 30 – April 3, 2025, 12:00 – 1:00 pm Central Time. Your registration for this class includes access to pre-recorded lessons, so if you need to miss any class, you can catch up with the recording on your own schedule. This class is great for beginners. A little experience with hand sewing will be helpful.
Stitches in this project will include: chain stitch (and variations), coral stitch, french knots, fly stitch & reversed fly stitch, wheatear stitch, woven cross stitch, threaded running stitches, palestrina stitch, butterfly chain stitch, double lock stitch, up and down buttonhole, berry stitch, moss stitch, knotted feather stitch. We will cover 1-3 stitches in each class session. You may have some stitching to complete outside of class time and video lessons will be available for you to review.
Your class fee includes a pre-printed panel with 8 cactus blocks. Each includes grid patterns and/or placement markings to help with your stitches. Each cactus block is 4×6 inches. These were designed by Becka and printed on 100% cotton fabric from Spoonflower. You provide the rest of the materials and tools for class. See list below.
Your cactus blocks can be finished MANY ways. You can cut them apart and create individual fabric postcards. Cut the panel into 2 groups of 4 and use them on the front and back of a totebag or to make a fabric basket. Frame them as a group or individually.
Materials you will need for class:
* scissors
* embroidery or chenille needle
* size 8 perle cotton or 6 stranded embroidery floss. You choose your own colors for this project. Each design uses 1, 2 or 3 solid colors or you can choose to use variegated threads. For my samples, I used the same mint green for all of the cactus “thorns” stitching (Wonderfil After Dinner Mint EZ30) and then assorted bright colors for the pots and flowers.
* OPTIONAL: lightweight fusible fleece to back your fabric before stitching. Recommended: Heat & Bond or Pellon. You need about a 14×16 inch piece.
* OPTIONAL: 5-7 inch embroidery hoop
Fabric panel is included in your registration fee. Additional fabric panels are available at my Spoonflower shop. (Link will be available soon).
For additional threads, fabric panels etc, please see the link in the right sidebar.
NOTE: This is the registration for the LIVE ZOOM VERSION of the class. The on-demand version of this class will be available here after January 30 and all Zoom students will have access to those recordings if you have to miss a live session or need a refresher. The on-demand lessons will parallel the live class. You only need to register for this session (not both).
