Spend an hour each week stitching in this fun hand embroidery sampler class, held online via Zoom. This is an 11 week class, starting July 18, 2024. Each week, you will learn a new sashiko-inspired stitch, a Japanese embroidery technique where the stitches are based on combinations of running stitches and threaded running stitches, placed on a grid. Class dates: Thursdays July 18 – September 26, 12:00 – 1:00 pm Central Time. Your registration for this class includes access to pre-recorded lessons, so if you need to miss any class, you can catch up with the recording on your own schedule.
Your class fee includes a pre-printed panel with six woodland creature blocks. Each includes grid patterns and/or placement markings to help with your stitches. The animals include a rabbit, duck, fox, hedgehog, toad, and squirrel printed in navy blue. These were designed by Becka and printed on 100% cotton fabric from Spoonflower. Each finished block is 5 inches square and can be finished to make into coasters, pockets, the center of a patchwork pillow or quilt block. You provide the rest of the materials and tools for class. See list below.
You do not need embroidery experience for this class. Beginners are welcome!
Materials you will need for class:
* scissors
* embroidery or chenille needle
* size 8 perle cotton or 6 stranded embroidery floss. You choose your own colors for this project. Each design uses 1, 2 or 3 solid colors or you can choose to use variegated threads. The squirrel and hedgehog shown above are stitched in variegated colors. If you don’t have threads, I have grab bag samplers available of perle cotton! See the right sidebar.
* OPTIONAL: lightweight fusible fleece to back your fabric before stitching. Recommended: Heat & Bond or Pellon. You need about a 15×10 inch piece.
* OPTIONAL: 5-7 inch embroidery hoop
Fabric is included in your registration fee. Additional fabric panels are available at my Spoonflower shop: Sashiko Inspired Squares
NOTE: This is the registration for the LIVE ZOOM VERSION of the class. The on-demand version of this class will be available here after July 18 and all Zoom students will have access to those recordings if you have to miss a live session or need a refresher. The on-demand lessons will parallel the live class. You only need to register for this session (not both).
