Whether you daydream of designing fabrics for sale or making something special for your own projects, this class will get you started with the basics of digital fabric design on a modest budget. We will use free and low cost design software (no Photoshop required) to create a variety of repeating patterns and a basic cut-and-sew bag design. Learn everything you need to know to make a print-ready file that can be digitally printed onto fabric.
You will need a laptop computer for this class. A limited number of laptops are available to borrow from the instructor for class (see below)
Materials fee: $12 includes swatch book of fabric samples, color chart and printed sample of fabric mailed to student after class.
Student Supply List
You must have a laptop computer for this class. It can be any kind of laptop, but please make sure that it has an up-to-date internet browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) and you know how to connect to wifi. You will not be able to do this class from an iPad or tablet. You do not need any special software for this class. I strongly encourage you to bring a mouse and not rely on your trackpad for this class. Many of the projects we will be doing will be easier with a mouse. Please bring your power cord and make sure that you know any passwords you need to access the computer. Basic computer skills are required. This means you should be comfortable with saving and opening a file, using a thumb/jump drive and navigating the internet in a web browser. If you have any questions about your computer, please feel free to email me before class.
NOTE: For students who don’t have a laptop, I have 6 laptops available for students to use in class. I got these as part of a grant to be used in my classes. Reserve your laptop here.
This class is part of the MN Quilters 2018 Conference.
