Needle & Thread Embroidery Class – Weekly Drop In

Spend an hour with a needle and thread exploring the art of embroidery. Each week you’ll learn a new kind of stitch: chain stitch, satin, back stitch, buttonhole, figure eight knots and more. We’ll start by making abstract doodles with the basic form and then try out different variations to add texture and color. For inspiration, we’ll look at a few examples of each stitch used in different ways in modern and vintage textiles. Beginners are welcome; you don’t need any sewing experience for this class. This is a drop in class held every Thursday at noon (Central Time) / 6pm (GST). It is held in partnership with SoulSanity.io as part of their artmaking & wellness program and is open to anyone. Your $24 registration allows you to attend any or all of the sessions from April 7 - June 30, 2022. You can come to all of the sessions or pick and choose which ones you are interested in. Designing Kumihimo Braids

Learn the basics of kumihimo, a multi-stranded braid which originated in Japan. In this class you will learn both an 8 and 16 stranded braid pattern and how to make your own marudai braiding loom. We will talk about how to design your own braid variations with different colors and yarn weights or textures. Have another family member who would like to join you for class? Just add on an additional materials kit when you register. About the project. You will be able to complete 2-3 braid samples in class Kit will include a variety of colored and textured yarns and the materials to make a reusable braiding loom. Tech details. Class fee includes a 2 hour live online Zoom class and a materials kit mailed to you before the class session. You will need to provide scissors and a pen/pencil for this project; all other materials you need are included in the kit. Please register early so the materials have time to arrive before class. A Zoom link will be emailed to you a few days before class.
