Artist in Residence: Art & Architecture at HHM

Hennepin History Museum 2303 3rd Ave S, minneapolis, MN, United States

On Thursday evenings in May and June, I will be working at the Hennepin History Museum. I am going to create an original fabric design based on some architectural elements of the building. If you look up at side of the Hennepin History Museum building, there are beautiful carved stone medallions with floral motifs. I am going to recreate those in recycled paper (including some old Hennepin History magazines) to make three paper collages. I will scan and transform these into a repeating pattern that can be printed on fabric and will be available later in the summer in the HHM giftshop. The museum is open late on Thursday nights and you can stop in to see the amazing exhibits and see me making art. Free with museum admission.

Bell Museum: Artist-In-Residence

Bell Museum 2088 Larpenteur Ave W, Roseville, United States

I will be at the brand new Bell Museum this weekend as an artist-in-residence in their #SolutionStudio Lab. The exhibit in this space talks about how sometimes the things you need to do your work aren't things found in stores and how artists and scientists have to sometimes make the tools that they need. I am going to talk about how I use recycled paper all the time when I make my work and then we will be making containers from recycled papers: pieces of origami art that you can use to hold things like art materials or your rock collection. I will even show you how to make a paper cup that holds water. My sister and I used to make these all the time and thought it was super fun to drink out of them.

Fiber to the People Pop-Up at Bell Museum

Bell Museum 2088 Larpenteur Ave W, Roseville, United States

This summer, the Bell Museum is open late on Wednesday with a series of pop-up programs with local artists, scientists, and researchers. On July 17, WGM will host a pop-up featuring textile artist Becka Rahn. Becka will guide visitors of all ages in a simple method for spinning wool and plying it back on itself to make a bracelet. Stop by, say hi, and learn to spin with a friend. The Bell Museum is located at 2088 Larpenteur Ave W in St. Paul with plenty of auto and bike parking.
