Fiber to the People Pop-Up at Bell Museum

Bell Museum 2088 Larpenteur Ave W, Roseville, United States

This summer, the Bell Museum is open late on Wednesday with a series of pop-up programs with local artists, scientists, and researchers. On July 17, WGM will host a pop-up featuring textile artist Becka Rahn. Becka will guide visitors of all ages in a simple method for spinning wool and plying it back on itself to make a bracelet. Stop by, say hi, and learn to spin with a friend. The Bell Museum is located at 2088 Larpenteur Ave W in St. Paul with plenty of auto and bike parking.

Artist Talk with Becka Rahn @ Knit & Bolt

Zoom/Online Event

Let’s connect with Fiber Artists - Artist Talks! Local artist Becka Rahn is a textile designer, a member of the Bell Museum’s Resident Artist Research Project, and teacher of; felting, dying, weaving, knitting, sewing, embroidery, beadwork, quilting, and how-tos for online sales. She will be chatting with us on Feb 17th at 7 pm via Zoom. Becka will take us on a tour of her micro-studio where she makes her work. She will share with us info on a wedding fabric commission she completed. We will get a sneak peek of her Bell Museum show. In the more maker vein, Becka will talk about “hero” prints and accent fabrics to go with them. She will also give us a little demo on making piping, for pockets, bags, and other things. And if there is time at the end we will do a Q&A.  ==================================== This artist talk series is hosted by Knit & Bolt, my local AWESOME fabric & yarn store.

A Spoonful of Spoonflower

Zoom/Online Event

Get a tour of what it’s like to design fabrics and print them using Spoonflower, a web-based service for printing your own fabric designs. During class, I'll walk through creating a simple two-color design from creating a sketch to uploading and ordering. Get the scoop on the technical details of uploading and proofing your files, managing colors, and see samples of different fabrics. Have a specific project in mind and want a little help? We'll have time at the end for Q&A and brainstorming. I nearly always teach this class as a custom private class for guilds and conferences and I thought it would be great to do a session for anyone to attend!

Santa Ornament Sew-A-Long

Zoom/Online Event

Join me for a sew-a-long to make your own Santa Claus ornament. These ornaments are designed by Larissa Holland of MmmCrafts. You are REQUIRED to purchase your own copy of the Santa Claus pattern from the Twas the Night Ornament Series directly from her shop.  The pattern is NOT included in the sew-a-long or materials kit. This sew-a-long is held with permission of MmmCrafts. The sew-a-long will be held over Zoom for 6 sessions, 1 hour per week. There will be homework to complete between sessions; you will not be able to finish all of the stitching/glue steps during class time. Becka will demonstrate each step of the pattern, answer questions and provide tips and tricks. Sessions are Tuesdays at Noon (CDT) October 25, Nov 1, 8, 15, 29, Dec 6. (There will be no recordings, but if you need to miss a session, you will have the written instructions and you can use those to catch up.) Your class registration includes a materials kit with enough materials to make two ornaments. Your ornaments will have the same basic colors, but you can swap around what color you use for each piece, so they don't have to be identical. [read more...]
