DCL Online: Weave A Miniature Tapestry

Zoom/Online Event

Create a small woven masterpiece using a laser cut bamboo loom. These playing card sized looms are easy to learn and you can finish your woven project in just an afternoon. Learn how to combine and weave with yarns, wool roving, beads and textured threads to create a landscape or abstract design. You will need to provide a pair of scissors for this class. All other materials will be provided for this project including a laser cut bamboo loom, weaving needle and a small assortment of yarns and fibers. Materials kits will be mailed to you or are available to pick up before class. You will need the tools in the kit, so you must have a materials kit to participate in class. Registration for this class is through Dakota County Libraries.

Santa Ornament Sew-A-Long

Zoom/Online Event

Join me for a sew-a-long to make your own Santa Claus ornament. These ornaments are designed by Larissa Holland of MmmCrafts. You are REQUIRED to purchase your own copy of the Santa Claus pattern from the Twas the Night Ornament Series directly from her shop.  The pattern is NOT included in the sew-a-long or materials kit. This sew-a-long is held with permission of MmmCrafts. The sew-a-long will be held over Zoom for 6 sessions, 1 hour per week. There will be homework to complete between sessions; you will not be able to finish all of the stitching/glue steps during class time. Becka will demonstrate each step of the pattern, answer questions and provide tips and tricks. Sessions are Tuesdays at Noon (CDT) October 25, Nov 1, 8, 15, 29, Dec 6. (There will be no recordings, but if you need to miss a session, you will have the written instructions and you can use those to catch up.) Your class registration includes a materials kit with enough materials to make two ornaments. Your ornaments will have the same basic colors, but you can swap around what color you use for each piece, so they don't have to be identical. [read more...]

Event Series Embroidery Series

Hand Embroidery (Fall Session Oct – Dec)

Zoom/Online Event

Spend an hour with a needle and thread exploring the art of embroidery. Each week you’ll learn a new kind of stitch, from braided chain stitch to stacked herringbone squares. NEW: For the fall session we are adding some variations with BEADS and because it's heading toward winter we will combine some stitches to make snowflakes. In each class, we’ll start by making abstract doodles with the basic form and then try out different variations to add texture and color. For inspiration, we’ll look at a few examples of each stitch used in different ways in modern and vintage textiles. Beginners are welcome; you don’t need any sewing experience for this class. This is a drop in class held every Thursday at noon (Central Time) / 6pm (GST). It is held in partnership with SoulSanity.io as part of their artmaking & wellness program and is open to anyone. Your $24 registration allows you to attend any or all of the sessions from October 13 - December 29, 2022. You can come to all of the sessions or pick and choose which ones you are interested in. Tentative Stitch Schedule: Oct 13 Tulip Stitch & Danish Knot • Oct 20 Braided Chain [read more...]
