Event Series Hand Embroidery (Winter 2023 Jan – March)

Hand Embroidery (Winter 2023 Jan – March)

Zoom/Online Event

Spend an hour with a needle and thread exploring the art of embroidery. Each week you’ll learn a new kind of stitch, from braided chain stitch to stacked herringbone squares. This Winter session will include combinations of stitches to make small animals and doodles and new stitches to learn. (You can see previous stitch examples at the class gallery page.) In each class, we’ll start by making abstract doodles with the basic form and then try out different variations to add texture and color. For inspiration, we’ll look at a few examples of each stitch used in different ways in modern and vintage textiles. Beginners are welcome; you don’t need any sewing experience for this class. This is a drop in class held every Thursday at noon (Central Time) / 6pm (GST). It is held in partnership with SoulSanity.io as part of their artmaking & wellness program and is open to anyone. Your $24 registration allows you to attend any or all of the sessions from January 19 - March 30, 2023. You can come to all of the sessions or pick and choose which ones you are interested in. Materials needed for class. This will be the same for all class [read more...]

Embroidered Ledger Book

Zoom/Online Event

Let's make a pair of small notebooks with embroidered covers. In this online/Zoom class you'll create two notebooks with Kraftex paper covers. Kraftex is a heavy weight but flexible paper that feels a little like soft leather. It's washable, so it's great for holding up to wear and tear on notebook covers and it's fun to stitch! The notebooks are 3x5 inches each and stitched at the top to make a ledger style book. You will learn an embroidery stitch called the sorbello stitch to embellish the covers; it looks nice from the inside and outside of the page. We'll tear down drawing paper from larger sheets, creating a torn or deckle edge on each sheet. (This is a great skill you can use to recycle larger sheets of paper for future projects.) It's the perfect size notebook to keep in your favorite tote bag for lists and notes. This class includes a materials kit that will be mailed to you. The kit includes everything you will need to complete the project except a pair of scissors and a ruler (see note below). The colors in your kit will include assorted bright and neutral colors to mix and match [read more...]
