mood board – noun – an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc., intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept.
I have recently worked on a number of projects where it was helpful to use the idea of a mood board to communicate a style or collection of ideas. We were trying to use it as a collaborative tool, which I don’t think was as effective as it could have been but I thought I would take a minute to design a mood board for my collection of new work. Think of it as a sneak peek with photos of the finished products to come very soon. (Click the image and you can see it bigger)
So I am curious… What does this collection say to you? What’s a word or two that pops into your head?
Vintage fashion…..but you have one of my favorite movies all over in there :)
Yep. I just watched it last night. It was a little bit on my mind.
Hard to limit my thoughts to a word or two. I see vintage/ you and that waist of yours, roses, butterflies, classic elegance. I am surprised by the colors- quite a bit more pink than I expect from you. i love your magician relative and the origami. Sooooo cool.
I can’t wait to see what comes of this pink vintage magic!
It is a lot of pink for me and for some reason it just works. In fact, I had to use that photo from “Funny Face” in the bottom left – the name of that musical number is “Think Pink”.
So now maybe we see why mood boards are a great tool for individuals, but can be hard for groups. You and I have such different outlooks, it is only natural that we would pull different things from a board like this. I see pink. You have some clever scheme in mind which probably has nothing to do with pink. I see your relative and an origami butterfly and can only wonder how this will turn out. You have used images of butterflies before. I see a vintage dress like the one for Textile Center’s birthday. Maybe with big pink roses and polka dots. I get caught up in separating you as a designer for projects vs you as a designer for your own sartorial needs.
I am excited to see the end results!
