Pencil Box

2025

Paper box with woven cover, handmade and marbled papers

In my work, I like exploring the crossover between traditional textile techniques and paper instead of fabric. Paper is more fragile and vulnerable to piercing, folding, and stitching, which creates an interesting tension between soft forms like ruffles or embroidery and the crisp structure of paper.

Pencil Box is an abstract representation of pencils woven through the cover, combining the softness and repetition of woven forms with the geometric rhythm and stiffness of paper. The piece also plays with iconic or archetypal forms, reducing the pencil to its simplest recognizable shape: a long rectangle ending in a triangle. By transforming that familiar everyday object into an unusual woven box, the pencils shift from something functional into something unexpected.
